Do we need those social media buttons?

If you have a website you will have been told that you must have Social Media Buttons to get those likes on Facebook, reTweets on Twitter and followers on your blog. I have long suspected that they don’t make any difference and in fact may cause some harm slowing pages and making them ‘jittery’.

I was pleased to discover a couple of articles which seem to reaffirm my beliefs. What do you think? (you can use my FB, twitter and blog buttons ;-))

The Crouch End Unlibrary
I went to meet the creatives at the Crouch End Unlibrary today looking towards some collaborative work. An extremely friendly and talented crowd and captured superbly by cartoonist Brian Davis (buy his book - Angel Delights) - he certainly puts my efforts on Broken Jane look very poor - then again anyone’s drawing would put mine to shame!
Also in the cartoon (and the Unlibrary!):
Chris Meade - Director of if:book ukJane Hobson - arts and events photographerRobin Stevenson - co-founder of the portable bookshop and unlibrarian and a shiatsu teacher who’s name I have embarrassingly forgotten (sorry!)…oh and me!

The new PC is up and running! It’s taken a while - building it was just one day but re-installing all the software/plugins/drivers etc took sooo long! I am so glad that at least I have Roboform (see my earlier ‘Managing Paswords’ blog) in which I have stored all my license numbers and download links along side all the passwords! Most installed without a problem and only Photoshop required a call to release a license.
The new PC is super fast and I also keep getting side-tracked trying out all the software - but now back to work!
(The picture is the wonderful Akasa Venom Nano cooling fan and Intel i5-2500k chip - now working hard inside my PC!)
